FAQ's

How many of the hours on the course are contact hours?

With limited participants and 175 contact hours this is a high-touch course where you are guaranteed to receive plenty of individualized support, feedback and guidance from both your lead trainers from Day 1, as well as long after you earn your certificate.

The remaining 25 hours are made up of:

5 hrs self-paced work during our integration break
20 hours yoga class attendance (3 to 4 additional asana classes per week for the duration of the course at The Yoga Shala or any qualified teacher of your choice)

Number of participants on the course?

We cap the number of participants on each course to 10 in total. Additionally we only offer 4 Online Only spaces per course. This creates the most valuable learning environment in our experience, ensuring students learn how to teach in-person, online and hybrid sessions.

What if I miss a session?

All lectures, asana labs and classes are recorded and will be available on student only course platform for you to catch-up if needed. We do however require 80% live attendance (in-person & online) for you to earn your certificate. This is not a self-paced online course and the use of recordings offers you the flexibility to navigate your own rhythms, cycles and responsibilities with more peace of mind.

Do I get manuals?

Yes! And they have been lovingly created to serve as a teaching resource for many years to come. All manuals required are supplied by us and are included in the cost of the training.
If you are attending Online Only, you will receive a PDF version that you can print. That is why we are able to give a Online Only discount.

Do I need to buy textbooks?

No, not in order to complete the course. We will however provide you with some guidance on books that might be beneficial to you as we move through the course. These recommendations are based on individual interest and support needed.

How much teaching practice is there on the course?

Besides the 4 teaching assessments, you will get plenty of opportunity to teach micro lessons to help you integrate the learning from everyday. These will typically be done after learning new asanas or sequences to put into practice both the information and relevant teaching skills you learned.

How much asana practice is there on the course?

Each day (Tuesday to Saturday) will begin with a 60 minute asana practice and you are expected to attend an additional 3 to 4 asana classes over a week. These will be in the form of evening or lunch time classes with The Yoga Shala which offers a diverse schedule with a variety of styles. You will also be the students for when your peers are teaching their assessments. Everyday will also have asana lab on the schedule where you will further explore postures in more detail.

Thus you can prepare for 12 to 15 hours of asana practice in a variety of styles per week.

Will I have homework?

There will be some theoretical assignments, reflections and class planning preparations for you to complete during the course. However it will not be daily and you will be supported in the process.

How will I be assessed and what are the requirements to receive my certificate?

You will be assessed through means of four teaching assessments At the end of the first three weeks you will teach a 45 minute assessment for each of the three styles of yoga we cover. At the end of the fourth week you may choose which style of yoga you want to teach for your final assessment. If we feel your final assessment did not really showcase what you are capable of, you may be asked to re-teach it as a way to integrate feedback.

Can I participate online only?

Yes! We do support online learning and if you are joining from outside Namibia you qualify for the Online Only Discount of 75 Euros. We do require a few things from online participants though to ensure a quality learning environment for all. You will need a space where your whole body can be visible for practice/teaching and a mic so that you can be audible to others. This can be done without investing in expensive equipment and we are happy to guide you on how to best set this up with bluetooth earphone, a phone, a tripod and some Zoom savvy.

How do you support online learning?

We are veterans of sharing yoga online, as well as in hybrid settings. We have invested in sound & video equipment to ease the process, as well as done a Zoom education deep dive on how best to use this platform to create an inclusive learning environment.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes we do, please speak to us if you need a payment plan.

Is this course Yoga Alliance?

After much consideration, we decided to NOT register this course with Yoga Alliance for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, as both ‘E-RYT 500’ teachers, neither can actually tell you how this standardizing body has had any impact on our teaching/learning in a way that has created more value or richness. We are happy to discuss this if you have any concerns.

Do I need any experience to join this course?

Yes and no. It always helps to have some prior experience or an existing practice. That said, we have had beginners on the course who wanted the deep dive as a way to start their practice. They brought an immense amount of dedication, compassion and openness with them which allowed them to really make the most of the process. And they enriched the course for everyone else by providing tangible learning situations to fellow students. So, it is not the experience so much as the nature of participation that matters most in the end.
